Honeymoon Registry Etiquette

Right about now you probably find the whole process of planning your wedding and honeymoon

to be a wee bit overwhelming! Times have changed, and it’s hard these days to figure out what’s correct! The first thing to remember is that you, your wedding party & your guests all have the same goal: for you and your honey to have the time of your lives! So relax; everyone’s on the same page. In the meantime, here are a few tips to steer you in the proper direction.

Puh-lease!

Never mention wedding gifts in the wording of your wedding invitations! Nowadays, the inclusion of a card or two letting guests know where you’re registered is generally considered just fine-but never print a request for “Cash Gifts” or “No Gifts.” How gauche!Even if you really don’t want any gifts, it’s inappropriate to mention it. People want to give you a token of their affection & they’ll do just that, no matter how much you protest. Think of it this way-letting guests know where you’re registered is a courtesy to them. It simplifies their shopping, and ensures them of giving you the perfect gift. The fact that you may receive a few items you really want is just icing on the cake (so to speak!).

Absolutely!

Give all of your parents all of the details about all of your honeymoon registry items. Parents are your guests’ #1 information resources. Plus, your folks want to help you, so let them! Same goes for your bridesmaids and groomsmen. Their responsibilities go beyond looking beautiful and dancing till dawn. It’s their job to get the word out-whether it’s to let guests know where you’re registered or to fill them in on your charity of choice-they are probably best qualified to share info with your friends.

Where to register

Well, it depends on who you are and what you want. Obviously if you both set up housekeeping years ago, or if you’re a married couple renewing your vows, you don’t need much more “stuff”. We may be a bit partial, but we’d suggest starting with TheBigDay.com! That way, your guests get to buy you beautiful honeymoon (or vacation) memories instead of extra toasters. Regardless of where-or how many times-you register-you’re bound to get a couple of toasters, a few heirlooms (congratulations!), and an assortment of trinkets beyond your imaginations! Even so, it’s probably a good idea to also register with a traditional national (or regional) retailer or two. Be sure you have a good mix of registry items in a wide range of prices, so no one feels left out. Once you’re registered, remember to hand out some of the registry cards to your parents and attendants, so they’ll know what’s what. There, now-that wasn’t so tricky, was it? Just remember that from out of this chaos will emerge everyone’s sincerest wish: the wedding & honeymoon (and marriage!) of your dreams.
